Music 3.0

by Kilted Alex on January 28, 2010

As we get deeper and deeper into the rabbit hole that is #FREECHAOS – which in case you’ve been living in Outer Mongolia, or too busy watching American Idol, is our competition to boost the online visibility of one lucky musician, band or DJ by giving them not only a TOTALLY FREE website, but also a mysongstore account to enable them to actually be able to easily sell their music, and at a fair rate, we realize more and more that the days of having to have top notch management and a label deal in place to secure success are fading fast! (Again, you might be too busy watching the “talent” on American idol and miss this fact completely)

Recently we stumbled across a cool cat that gets that exactly – in the form of one Bobby Owinski over at the “Music 3.0″ blog - he has a couple of rather funny, not particularly work-safe videos on the subject over on his blog, and indeed, if you’re in the music industry and want some heads up about the changing landscape of music distribution and marketing you’d do a lot worse than bookmark his website – or better still of course, subscribe to the Music 3.0 RSS feed.

To quote from the Music 3.0 blog: “The mechanics are now in place to do most of the work yourself that a traditional record label used to do. The difference is, you can do it better.” We at Kilted Chaos fully agree with that statement, and are convinced that the people saying “Social media will never help artists succeed, they need good A&R” are the same A&R wankers that are struggling to keep hold of their jobs kissing the RIAA and old school media’s butt at any opportunity, in exchange for the mighty $ and a bag of dodgy looking white powder (That usually turns out to be baby talcum anyway ;)

Listen up savvy muso types: The landscape is changing fast – DIY is back in! “Music 3.0″ blog is saying it, we’re saying it, other writers and websites are saying it – and stay tuned, because we’ll not only be saying it, but by proving our theories very soon indeed. Its all hush hush of course, but there’s a lot of change happening behind the velvet curtain at Kilted Chaos, we’re putting our pens into storage, and swapping them for big old social media Marshall stacks that go all the way to 11, in order to prove our belief in the future of the music industry!
