We just added a Portfolio page to the site, of course we didn’t call it that now did we – just look under the “Kilted Work” tab!
To go along with the page, we’re going to write up our experiences on each and every site we work on, the good, the bad, the hacks we made, what our clients say about their new sites, all that fun stuff! So lets get cracking with The Polish Pottery Press!
Dan Danner, of Inspired Design, a retailer of Boleslaweic Polish Pottery advertised for someone to develop a blog for his company. Kilted Chaos stepped up and said “We’re your guys” – or something like that!
Originally Dan wanted a fairly simple, SEO friendly blog that would help improve visibility for his store website and local new business to his outlet in Englewood, Colorado. We read into that and added a few extra features to help his “organic” SEO and added extra ways of linking back to his website and store.
Once we had the header graphic styled, we realised that using the same style and formatting an easy to update “Item of the Week” feature would be a high visibility addition to the blog’s sidebar. Then we added our favorite “lazy tagging” plugin – Tagaroo, to help easily come up with new tags for every article Dan publishes. We added a flickr photo gallery function, with all products from the blog being added to an “Inspired Design” Flickr page (Wahey – more search juice for little work!), then we suggested he add presentations on the fine art of Polish Pottery to Slideshare.com (Even more free easy search juice!)
I think you’ll agree that while the end result is still quite obviously a blog driven website, the add-ons we put into this one really help improve linkability to the polishpotteryoutlet website and in a relatively short space of time the SEO richness of the Thesis framework, combined with the Tagaroo plugin will improve local and national search results without having to spend a fortune with none of those “SEO expert companies” you see flogging their dead horse all over the place.
